Mysterious stories: The house that remembered

When Daniel inherited his grandmother’s old house in Vermont, he expected dust, broken furniture, and a few forgotten photographs.

He did not expect the house to remember him.

The first strange thing happened on his second night.

At exactly 2:17 a.m., someone knocked three times on the bedroom door.

Daniel froze.

“Grandma?” he whispered.

No answer.

He opened the door.

The hallway was empty.

The next morning, he discovered something unusual on the wooden floor outside his room: three small drops of water.

But the hallway was completely dry.

That evening, Daniel explored the attic. Behind a stack of old boxes, he found a dusty mirror covered with a white sheet.

When he removed it, his reflection stared back.

Then it smiled.

Daniel stepped backward.

His reflection did not.

Instead, it slowly raised one finger and pointed toward the wall behind him.

Daniel turned.

Nothing was there.

When he looked back at the mirror, his reflection had disappeared.

Terrified, Daniel covered the mirror again and left the attic.

At 2:17 a.m., the knocking returned.

This time, it came from inside the wall.

Three knocks.

Daniel grabbed his phone and turned on the flashlight.

A thin crack had appeared in the wallpaper.

He pulled it open and discovered a narrow wooden door hidden behind the wall.

Inside was a tiny room.

There was an old chair, a dusty table, and dozens of photographs.

Daniel picked up the nearest photograph.

It showed his grandmother standing in the attic.

Beside her was a young boy.

Daniel stared at the boy.

It was him.

But the photograph was dated 1978—twenty years before Daniel was born.

Suddenly, another photograph fell from the table.

It showed Daniel standing in the same hidden room.

This time, the date was tomorrow.

Behind him stood a tall shadow.

Daniel heard three knocks.

He slowly turned around.

Nobody was there.

Then his phone buzzed.

A new photograph had appeared in his gallery.

It showed him standing exactly where he was.

And behind him, the tall shadow was smiling.

Daniel ran downstairs and never returned.

Years later, the house was sold.

The new owner found the hidden room.

On the table was a fresh photograph.

It showed the new owner entering the house.

The date on the photograph was tomorrow.
